Fire Alarm System
A fire alarm system warns about possible fire, smoke, or carbon monoxide occurrence in the area of coverage. It uses visual and audio signaling to warn people about a possible regarding fire. These systems are usually set to provide zonal coverage for residences and commercial aareas. A loud siren/bell, a flashing light, or a combination of both can serve as warning signal to make people alert. Some fire alarm systems use additional warnings, such as sending a voice message or making a phone call.

Types of fire alarm systems:
There are several types of fire alarm systems depending on the functionality and the integrated components.
- Conventional fire alarm system: A conventional fire alarm works with physical cabling to connect several detectors and call points. devices like smoke and heat detectors in conventional fire alarm are connected to a central control panel that monitors and manages the various components of the fire alarm system. while conventional system do identify which zone an initiating device is in, it isn’t able to pinpoint the specific initiating device and its location. These fire alarms are cost-effective, but they require a lot of maintenance and are not as easily scalable as addressable fire alarm . These systems are suitable for small buildings.
- Addressable fire alarm systems: An addressable fire alarm is often considered an efficient system as compaired to conventional fire alarm because it uses advanced new technologies for enhanced reliability and greater user control. The system has same detection principle, except that each detector can be given a specific address that allows to identify the exact location of the detector that initiated the alarmrather than identifying a zone this can be seen in the fire alarm control panel. Since the devices can share one cable wires up to the last device, it does not require many wires. Both ends of the wire is loop connected to the fire alarm control panel. These system are very suitable for large and high buildings.
- Wireless fire alarm systems: A wireless alarm system does not use any conduit and cable wires. The hardware and programming in these systems are higher than the wired systems. The devices are battery powered and can be placed anywhere and can be easily relocate if needed.
Fire alarm system working principle:
A fire alarm system works with a combination of divices, it’s major functions are to detect, alert and monitor in case of fire breakout. Fire alarm uses sensors to recognize potential fires after that, it generates notification to appliances to alert emergency services and assist in evacuations and control panels to manage all of the system’s various components. When a fire alarm sensor is triggered, it sends a signal to its central control panel which notifies emergency response teams and activates devices to alert people.
Fire alarm system components:
Following are main components of fire alarm ,
- Fire alarm control panel
- Primary power supply
- Backup power supply
- Fire alarm initiating devices
- Fire notification device
Fire Alarm System Usage:
Following are primary uses of a fire alarm
- A fire alarm is designed to detect fire in two main ways by smoke and by heat.
- When the fire alarm detects smoke, heat, or water movement, it alerts occupants or people in the building using loud and bright signels, both audible and visible alarms.
- A fire alarm manage risk by reacting to potential risks of fire using control measures. When the alarm is activated, some systems perform a set of tasks that help prevent fire and smoke from spreading as well as protect occupants, such as: automatically shutting doors.
- A fire alarm notifies authorities regarding fire breakout, This ensures the fire department is active as quickly as possible, so they can respond and extinguish the fire
Fire alarm system installation:
Wireless fire alarm systems: these fire alarm systems are installed using fireproof cable. smoke alarms, callpoints and sounders are fitted through cables around the building. Wireless fire alarm are an alternative to cabled installations, the equipment is simply screwed to the walls and ceilings,
Fire alarm system price in Pakistan:
The pricing of fire alarm depends on multiple factors such as type of system, size of the building, the number of devices (such as smoke detectors, heat sensors, and manual pull stations) needed, the complexity of the system and the installation costs. On average the ranges between Rs 10,000 to Rs 3,00, 000 in Pakistan.
